Fitness Friday: Miss US Legs

Okay. It’s Fitness Friday afternoon and despite the impending weekend, I’m still working extra diligently to help the stylists describe the June shoes—hold for applause. I know: we’re all excited.

I haven't been to the gym in over a week and that is the opposite of a miracle because the gym is my favorite place to distract myself from ...well...everything. I need to get back to working out because Miss USA up there is making me feel guilty. How great does she look in her Azures?

This Fitness Friday, I'm taking it back to where it all started: actual fitness. If you think heels make your legs look great, you're right. You know what else makes your legs look great? Leg exercises. Here are three of my favorites:

The recumbent bike. Recumbent is just a fancy word for 'laid-back' and that is precisely why I love this one. You can just sit there a pedal away while you text, or read, or question why certain people thought it was okay to wear that to the gym. When you remember that you're actually working out, try pedaling as fast as you can for 30 seconds and then go back to being laid back for a minute. You'll be surprised how sore this will make you--in the good way.

Scissor Kicks. This one's fun because, again, it involves being laid back. Actually, it involves laying on your side. I'm a big fan of exercises that let me relax. So, once you're on your side, lift both legs off the ground and kick like you're swimming. (You don't have to plug your nose or anything) Just make sure you alternate which side you're laying on; count each flutter and do a few sets of 50.

Calf Raises. I've said it before and I'll say it again: a hot pair of heels will work your calves like a ranch hand, but doing a little calf exercise at the gym will actually help your heels feel more comfortable--especially if you spend all day on your feet. Grab some weights--nothing heavy because this is still a pretty laid back exercise--and raise yourself up on the balls of your feet. I find that doing it to the beat of my music makes me look and feel cooler, but that might be just me.

I'm not saying that Rima, Miss USA up there, does all or any of these exercises, but clearly, she's doing something. These might be worth a try.

Have a great weekend, ladies!

Hello, as I love all your shoes, and I have been a long standing customer..... Can you offer us shoes like the Miss America/USA, is wearing. We all have had plenty choices of Black, and don't get me wrong, all a wonderful collection to my Dressing Room. Since it is Spring and then Summer, I think others would agree... We need Pink, Yellow, Blue, Orange, etc., sandles, high heels... Anyway this could be possible? I also did a cover for you, I'm the one with Cancer... Your shoes make me feel like nothing is wrong... As soon as I get them, I have to think of a reason to get into my wheelchair, OR NOT..... and usuallly NOT, because the chair just dosent give your collection justice.. Thanks so much for taking the time to read my comment, and I really do look forward to your response, and better yet, my shoecase..... Joanna King

Id have to disagree with you on this one Richy... The best leg exercises... if I could pick three would be 1.Lunges 2. Squats 3. And if you want to add cardio... that stair climber If you can read, text, etc while exercising, you're wasting your time! CRANK IT UP and get it tight!!

stylist Q&A

Question:

Question: I'm 27 and a college educated professional, but I look like I am 18. When I dress close to how I think those my age should dress, I look like I am trying too hard. I have trouble finding going out clothes, recently realized my wardrobe is 95% work clothes, and although I am 5'3, I shy away from heels. Help! I love fashion and am really good at helping others, but always feel a mess when I try to create my own personal style. I'm tired of jeans, flats, and t shirts :(
