What is a mammogram anyway? Currently, mammography is the best screening tool for breast cancer because it can find cancers at an early stage, when they are small and most responsive to treatment. Mammography is a screening tool that uses X-rays to provide an image of the breast. These images are used to find potential signs of breast cancer. Just a few minutes of your time could save your life! Screening is available to EVERYONE! Most insurance companies cover the cost of mammograms. Inquire about free or low-cost mammograms by contacting Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s breast cancer helpline at 1-877 GO KOMEN (877-465-6636). Get to know your body. Ask your physician for tips on giving yourself an effective breast exam. Be sure to contact a healthcare provider if you notice any changes in your breasts, such as thickening, lumps, changing shapes or pain. For more information on breast health, breast cancer and what you can do to help, visit Susan G. Komen for the Cure® at www.komen.org or call 1-877 GO KOMEN (877-465-6636). |
