Blooming Orchid

Question:

Hi! I just ordered the Orchid this month. While I'm sure they are going to look great with a pair of skinny jeans, I'm not sure what else. Any ideas?

Answer:

What could make the Orchid bloom more than the ability to transform from day to night like a true fashionista? Capture the floral trend by pairing the Orchids with a floral blouse & cute short shorts. Add a bit of fancy with butterfly earrings and polish the look off with golden aviator sunglasses. In the evening, be a PRINT-cess with a peacock-hued, pattern tunic, big bangle cuff, and bold earrings. Tying in the lavender detail of the print with the Orchids will have you shaking your tail feather in style.

Practice Makes Perfect!

Question:

I LOVE SHOES and would LOVE to wear a wider variety of shoes, but I don't really know how to walk in high heels, especially the stiletto kind. Do you have tips on how to walk confidently in high heels?

Answer:

Yes, PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE! Wear them around the house while doing your dishes, while doing laundry, while even grocery shopping. Also the key to balance is posture. Make sure your shoulders are back and that you take small strides at first to build up your confidence.

Double Trouble?

Question:

Is it OK to wear red a tank, red heels, skinny jeans + a black mini?? Everyone says I can pull it off and I think so too.. but there’s something not OK about it.. I think

Answer:

Back away from the skinny jeans & black mini! I have no doubt that you can pull it off, but when I dress my clients, the most important thing is that they feel confident! If not, then I find something else. Maybe you’re not ready for that particular double-decker look, but you can always try a less daring version. How about a red tank top, red heels, black tights and a pair of black shorts? When it comes to taking fashion risks before you’re totally sure, less is definitely more!

Flattering Flats

Question:

I am a 52 year old woman, who loves heels, but I truly can't wear them any more. Heels make me feel sexy, so what shoe can I wear that will make my clothes look just as good?

Answer:

Flats can be just as sexy as heels. Just stick to fabrics like patent leather and details like pearls & beads. Building outfits with flats is easier than you think. Try jeans, leggings, and skirts, you can really be creative. The other suggestion I have for women who can’t do the traditional heel, is to opt for the wedge. That way you get the height of the heel, but the support of a flat. Lucky for you, the nude wedge is hot for Spring/Summer. Why is the nude wedge so fabulous? Because it elongates your legs and everyone loves a longer leg!

Overly Ambitious

Question:

My friends and I are escaping our smaller city for NYC this weekend and I am excited to wear my Natalia's out on Saturday night. I'm loving the tribal and mixed print trend and have a black and white leafy/zebra-y patterned dress that I'd like to pair with them, but afraid it might be "too much." Also, it's a tiny dress and it's not exactly warm yet in the Mid-Atlantic. Am I being overly ambitious?

Devon D., Baltimore, MD

Answer:

Overly ambitious for the local mall? Maybe; but for stepping out in NYC? Not a chance! Both patterns are in the same color palette, so you're well on your way to creating a great, print-mixing look! If you're worried the combo might be 'too much' for the eye and 'too little' for the weather, solve both issues at the same time with a solid, dress-length coat! A solid piece will give the eye a place to rest amidst the visual excitement of racing zebra stripes and racy snakeskin. Chartreuse and deep teal go great with these patterns and will even accent Natalia's bright red sole! When mixing patterns and textures, look for complementary intensities and color palettes rather than identical prints. Finally, be sure your makeup is fierce! A more dramatic face will let others know that your fashion risk is deliberate and that you're confident in the results. Mix it up and enjoy your night!
